Rumours or Numbers?

It is easy to believe “everyone is doing it.” We might think most students are vaping, drinking, or using cannabis. But do we really know the facts? The 2023 Ontario Student Drug Use and Health Survey (OSDUHS) shows a picture that may or may not surprise you.

This activity helps you test your assumptions and compare them with real data.

What you’ll do:

• Guess how common certain behaviours are, then check your guesses against real OSDUHS data.

Tips:

• Think about what surprised you? Why?
• Challenge ideas, not people. Use “I notice…” and “I wonder…”
• Think about how facts can help you choose balance in your own life.
• You can use this as a group activity or pair up.
• Share what you’re learning to help your group understand the data together.
